Year in School: Senior
Hometown: Randolph, NE
Major: Math and Secondary Education
Activities: Yahoo, Intramurals, Campus Ministries, Education Club
Subjects Tutored: Math and Education
Tutoring Style: "My style is that I will do an example problem to show students how to do the problem. Next, the student and I will do an example problem together. Then the student will do an example problem on their own. I do this because it gives students more examples to refer back to when they are in doing the homework. Also, it gives students more confidence that they can do the problems on their own."

Hometown: Black Hawk, SD
Major: Elementary and Special Education
Activities: ADMIT Club, Ambassadors, Moderator, Orientation Leader, Education Club, Prayer Partners, Mixed Choir, Intramurals
Subjects Tutored: Math, English, Education Courses, Religious Studies & Philosophy
Tutoring Style: "When students come into the Learning Center, I ask a couple of questions to find out what they already know and what they are struggling with. Typically when tutoring Math, the concepts that the student already understand are closely related to what they need help with. Therefore, it is just a matter of building on the familiar concepts to form an understanding of new concepts and then working through some problems together. When tutoring Education courses and Religious Studies, I help students to find the main ideas and develope a method for distinguishing what information is most important. When revising papers, I first ask the student what the assignment is. Then, I ask the student what he/she thinks that he/she could do to improve the paper and what he/she would like me to look for. We read through the paper together and discuss changes that would enhace the paper. My turoring style is centered on my belief that all Mount Marty students are very capable individuals. The Learning Center is a place where capable individuals can come together with other capable individuals and leave with more knowledge and insights."

If needed, I'll explain a certain concept first, and then, we'll try it out on practice problems or assignments. I let the students try it out on their own and then redircet them if they veer off track. when working on papers, the students and I normally go through it together and, come up with ideas on how to make necessary improvements."
