Season Preview-Fall 2011

Men’s soccer at Mount Marty is looking at a promising year with new head coach Nathan Epp. The Lancers return nine strong players and add five new players on the field for the 2011 season. Four seniors will lead the Lancers this season. Chandler Olmo from Omaha, NE received honorable mention for his strong performance at midfield in 2010. The Lancers look to Olmo to be a continued force his senior year. Carlos Saenz from Lima, Peru also received the same award for his impressive work in midfield. He is the leader in assists for Mount Marty and the team looks to him to provide scoring opportunities. Dane Hansen from Fremont, NE provides the team with speed on defense. He is joined by Brandon Frey from St. Peter, MN, who offers tireless intensity to the defense.

The Junior Class also provides potential for the Lancers. Midfielder Jose “Chepo” Rocha from South Sioux City, NE is an intelligent ball handler and his ability to distribute the ball makes him a force to be reckoned with.  His fellow junior classmate, Yankton’s Josh Koch, provides his hometown college team with speed and power behind the ball.

Last year, Sophomore Tyler Neu of Omaha, NE showed his talent as a versatile soccer player by scoring goals for the lancers as a defender. His solid defense is joined by Sophomore Defender, Tyler Gengler of Fremont, NE who also provides speed to the back line. Sophomore Tyler McCune was recognized as MMC’s Most Improved Player after last season and offers depth to the midfield.

The Lancers add five new faces to the roster for the 2011 Freshmen Class. Mount Marty is excited to continue its history of strong goalies with freshman Jeremiah Kiehn of Huron, SD. Freshmen Adan Marquez-Garcia and Oscar Martinez-Mojica hail from Siouth Sioux City, NE and are expected to add talent to the line-up. Also adding depth the team is James Elliot from Lake Norden, SD and Peter Shepard from Cannon Beach, OR.

The 2011 Mount Marty men’s soccer team looks to make a name for themselves in the GPAC this upcoming season and expects great things out the players. This talented roster hopes you will join in cheering them on as they take on their 2011 Season!
