MMC Volleyball Receives AVCA Recognition

Published Date8\7\2012
The Mount Marty College volleyball program was pleased to learn recently that they were recipients of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2011-2012 season. The Lancers were among seven of the ten GPAC teams to be recognized.

Head women's volleyball coach, Candice Climer, is excited with the news. "For these athletes to be able to balance the responsibilities of being a student and part of a competitive team is an accomplishment in itself. Then for them to succeed so well in the classroom - it's an even greater feat. I'm so proud of them all."

The AVCA Team Academic Award, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale. MMC's program was among seven of the ten GPAC to receive the honor.

For the NAIA category a team needs to have a minimum 3.0 grade point average. This includes all varsity athletes certified as eligible in the sport. Both fall and spring semesters are used to calculate the GPA.
