OConnell Signs with MMC Baseball
Mount Marty College is pleased to announce the commitment of junior college transfer Michael O'Connell to attend Mount Marty College and participate in the baseball program. O’Connell comes to Mount Marty from Miles Community College (Mont.) and is a graduate from Glacier High School in Kalispell, Montana.
O'Connell played third base this past spring and has the ability to play first base and be a designated hitter. He is coming off a quality junior college season in which he helped lead Miles Community College to a 36-17 record that included a Mon-Dak Conference Championship and Region IX Championship. O'Connell put up impressive offensive numbers playing in a wood bat junior college league. He batted .347 with 59 hits, 34 runs, 16 doubles, 7 home runs and had 50 runs batted in. For his efforts O'Connell was named to the Mon-Dak All-Conference Team.
Mount Marty College head baseball coach, Andy Bernatow, is excited to announce the commitment of Michael O’Connell to the Lancer baseball program. "I am very excited about the commitment of Michael. He's coming off an impressive year for Miles Community College and he can flat out hit. We graduated some key parts of the line-up from this past season and Michael adds some needed pop. I was able to watch Michael play this past spring at a Juco Regional in Williston, North Dakota. I really liked the presence he displayed in the batter's box, the pathway of his swing, and he showed some bat speed. Coach Nelson, who oversees hitting, is really going to enjoy working with him."
The son of Kelly and Jeanne O'Connell, Michael will be majoring in business administration at Mount Marty. He is the recipient of an MMC academic incentive scholarship in addition to his baseball award.
