OMalley Commits to Mount Marty College
Mount Marty College is pleased to announce the athletic signing of Mandy O'Malley to play basketball and participate in cross country for the Lancers next fall.
O'Malley, a 5'3" guard has been a vital player at Saint Patrick's Catholic High School in North Platte, Neb. She has averaged per game 7.8 points, 4 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 2.7 steals. She shoots a 43% field goal percentage and a 59% free throw percentage.
As a part of a stellar team, O'Malley and her teammates achieved a SPVA Conference title in 2012, Nebraska District title in 2012 and 2013, and were 4th place finishers at the 2012 Nebraska State Competition. She holds the three-point season record for Saint Patrick’s HS and was named SPVA Second Team All-Conference.
Lancers head women's basketball coach, Tom Schlimgen, sees an all-around fit with the signing of O'Malley. "We are excited to have Mandy join our program. She is the type of student-athlete we want to have in our program and we look forward to her being a positive part of our campus and team."
O'Malley is also a standout for Saint Patrick's High School in cross country. She holds the school record for the 1-mile, the 2-mile, and the 2-mile relay. She placed 13th in 2011 and 18th in 2012 at the Nebraska state cross country competition. At the Nebraska state track and field competition O'Malley placed 6th in 2012, 6th in 2011, and 3rd in 2010 in the 2-mile run. She also finished 4th place in 2012 in the 2-mile relay and was 8th place in the 1-mile run in 2012.
Lancers head cross country coach, Randy Fischer, sees a capable runner in O'Malley. "Mandy is a very talented runner and she will really be a big part of our cross country team in the years to come."
Off the court, O'Malley is a member of the National Honor Society and was the Emily McNeel Doyle Award recipient.
In addition to her athletic awards O'Malley is also receiving an academic achievement scholarship and a Catholic leadership scholarship. The daughter of James and Deb O'Malley of North Platte, Neb she will major in nursing at Mount Marty College.
