MMC Teams 7th, 8th At GPAC Meet

The Mount Marty College women matched a program-best with an eighth place finish and the Lancer men placed seventh in the Great Plains Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships, held Saturday at the Maud Adams Nature Center near McCook Lake.

The Concordia men beat out Morningside 48-55 for the men's team title. Nebraska Wesleyan finished third. Concordia senior Colin Morrissey won the 8,000-meter race in 25:08.65, seven seconds ahead of Morningside junior Taylor Chapman.

Jordan Pater led the Mount Marty men, finishing 11th in 25:36.01. Samuel Lopez finished 25th (26:08.60), with Joshua Monson 60th (27:23.06), Gage Blaschke 65th (27:38.03) and Mychal Bierwagen 68th (27:51.51) to complete the Lancers' scoring. Also for MMC, Ryan Oye finished 83rd (28:40.57), Kevin Cosman finished 85th (29:18.82) and Vincent Raia placed 93rd (33:02.92).

Dordt claimed spots 3-8 in the women's race to easily claim the team title, 25-91 over Concordia and Nebraska Wesleyan. Doane was fourth at 99 points.

MMC was led by senior Kaylee Fly, who made her case for a return trip to the NAIA meet with a ninth place finish. She clocked an 18:22.22 over the 5,000-meter course.

Also scoring for the Lancer women were Katie Smelker in 17th (18:45.64), Jordyn Hudelson (Elk Point) in 48th (19:28.49), Brooke Fischer in 58th (19:55.46) and Brittney Mikkelsen in 70th (20:18.64). Also for MMC, Tess Byrd placed 74th (20:41.33), Jade Steinberg (Yankton) placed 79th (20:49.85), Beth Finnegan placed 80th (21:23.27), Autumn Biermann placed 89th (22:43.91) and Miranda Pribil placed 93rd (24:38.48).

The Concordia men and Dordt women earned automatic spots into the NAIA meet, Nov. 17 at Vancouver, Wash. At-large berths for teams and individuals will be announced later this week.
