Ensemble-In-Residence Named at Mount Marty College

Published Date9\6\2013
Mount Marty College and Yankton Children's Choir have entered into an agreement which names YCC as an Ensemble-in-Residence at the college. YCC will establish residency at the college by holding rehearsals and Board of Directors meetings there with office and storage space also being provided.

"I am very excited to welcome Yankton Children's Choir to Mount Marty College as an Ensemble-in Residence. With the addition of this Ensemble-in-Residence the Music Department at Mount Marty is truly engaging in lifelong learning in choral music," stated Dr. Kenneth Tice, Chair of the Music Dept., Director of Choral Activities. "Combined with our college ensembles, and the Choral Union, we are reaching out to singers of all ages; a truly intergenerational community of music makers."

Executive Director of YCC, Dot Stoll, is thrilled about this new partnership. "It will be wonderful to have a permanent home for the music, uniforms and an office. We are grateful for rehearsal space at the United Church of Christ and music library space at Riverview Reformed Church for the past 15+ years. Now it's time for the next chapter. The children performed at Vespers last year and they are still talking about the experience of singing with the college students. Being at MMC and singing with college students will help them see, hear and feel that this is something they can do forever; it doesn't have to end after eighth grade. It will mean so much more than if we told them they can do this forever. They will just 'get' that."

YCC will perform regularly with the Mount Marty College Choirs for the Fall and Winter Choral Showcase. Additional performances may occur from year to year. The choir will begin rehearsals on the Mount Marty College campus on Sept 10th.
