Mount Marty College Signs Kneeland

Mount Marty College is pleased to announce the athletic signing of Alex Kneeland, a transfer from Augustana College and former Summit High School standout, to the Lancer women's basketball program for the 2014-15 season.

Kneeland, a 5'8" guard, was a 2011 graduate of Summit High School where she was a four-year starter, letter winner and team captain. She was also a three-time team MVP and named conference MVP as a junior and senior, tallied 2,293 career points, was a three-time all-state first team and all-conference first team recipient, selected to all-conference second team as a freshman, and named to State B All-Tournament team all four years at SHS. Kneeland led the SHS squad to the State B title twice and runner-up once. She earned Class B Player of the Year as a senior along with the recognition as the Spirit of Su award recipient and the title of 2011 South Dakota Miss Basketball. As a senior, Kneeland was named South Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year and Argus Leader Player of the Year. She also holds the All-Class State Tournament scoring record with 104 points and was named three times to the Aberdeen American News all-area team and selected to the Argus Leader top five and Argus Leader top ten ranks.

At Augustana Kneeland appeared in all 28 games and averaged 6 points per game. She was also named NSIC All-Academic.

MMC head women's basketball coach, Tom Schlimgen, is excited to have Kneeland signed with the program. "We are very excited to have signed Alex to our program. She is an outstanding athlete and just an overall, high caliber recruit. From all the successes she's had in her basketball career her winning mentality and experience will be a great asset to our Lancer squad. She's is a great player and an outstanding person and we are lucky to have her at Mount Marty College."

The daughter of Scott and Laurie Kneeland of Summit, SD, Alex will be majoring in biology at MMC. In addition to her athletic award Kneeland will also be receiving an Academic Honor Scholarship.
